Pet Licensing
About
You may purchase a dog or cat pet license at City Hall. A pet license is a lifetime tag and must be worn by the pet at all times. Pet licenses are valid for residents of the City of Lake Stevens only. Spay / neutering documentation is not required. Dogs and cats younger than three months are not required to be licensed until they reach three months of age.

No person shall keep more than three dogs and / or cats that are older than six months as household pets on any premises in the City, except as permitted by Chapter 5.16, Commercial Animal Rearing (Kennel) Regulations.

Licensing Exemptions
The pet licensing provisions do not apply to the following: 
  • Dogs and cats brought into the City for the purpose of participating in any dog or cat show
  • Dogs or cats temporarily kenneled at a licensed kennel for the sole purpose of breeding, training, hunting, or boarding, so long as the dogs or cats are restricted within a building or fenced enclosure intended and designed only for the purpose of kenneling dogs or cats and are not permitted to run at large

Fees
Fees for dog and cat licenses are the same: $20 lifetime tag and $4 replacement tag.

Fee Exemptions
Lifetime pet licenses are free for the following:
  • If pet licensing occurs within 60 days of pet ownership, including dogs and cats in newly annexed area 
  • Senior citizen pets (senior defined as being 62 years of age or older) 
  • Guide dog / service animals

No refunds shall be made on any dog or cat license. License tags are not transferable.

Applications may be obtained here or at City Hall, 1812 Main Street. Completed applications may be mailed with the appropriate dollar amount to:

A tag will be then be mailed to you.

Lost Pets
If your dog or cat is licensed and picked up by City Animal Control Officer, the City will attempt to contact you and return the pet. Pets not picked up or unlicensed will be sent to the Everett Animal Shelter. An impound fee will be charged.
