The City of Lake Stevens is developing its first Climate Mitigation Plan (CMP) as a framework and roadmap to manage current and future carbon emissions and potential climate change impacts in Lake Stevens. This plan will establish a suite of feasible strategies to help reduce Lake Steven’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, recognizing emissions targets and preparing residents for potential climate impacts. The CMP will also provide the technical climate change foundation for the city's upcoming Comprehensive Plan Update, which must be adopted by June 30, 2024.

The city received a grant in the amount of $80,000 from the Department of Commerce to assist with this planning effort. The city started its CMP process in January of 2023 and is required to complete the project by June 30, 2023 to comply with the grant contract.  A consultant team led by Cascadia Consulting Group (CCG) will work with the City of Lake Stevens to develop this plan.

Public Engagement Plan

A Public Engagement Plan has been developed to provide a strategic framework for communicating with and engaging partners and the public in the climate mitigation planning process.

• The city has developed a Public Engagement Plan to ensure it hears from a diverse set of voices.
• Community engagement will include a virtual public workshop, virtual focus-group interviews, and online surveys, as well as frequent check-ins with the Planning Commission and City Council.
