Ordinances & Resolutions

Ordinances and resolutions? Every city has them, but what are they?

In sum, they are regulatory measures that govern an individual city.

Ordinances are permanent regulations relating to city business enacted by the City Council,  as opposed to a law made by the state or federal government. They address issues of local concern, and apply to residents who are subject to the city’s jurisdiction

Resolutions are expressions of opinion dealing with City Council business.  They are often used to persuade other legislative bodies (state or federal) to adopt legislation that is beyond the powers of the local body.

Both ordinances and resolutions are important to how Lake Stevens is operated and managed, and concern all citizens.
