Over the past two years the City has undertaken an effort to create a first class park for all to enjoy. The City is currently working with the design firm of Bruce Dees & Associates, who also designed Lundeen Park in the late 1980’s, to finalize the design of the newest improvements.
Upcoming enhancements include re-grading the great lawn, new drainage and irrigation throughout the park. A new playground will replace the existing large play structure. The paved walking path adjacent to the wetlands on the eastside of the park will be completed. Many of the existing trees were not properly installed in the park and have destroyed concrete walkways, lifted the drive way pavement, blocked the sewer and drainage system and broken the exiting irrigation system. For this reason, we are removing and will be replacing most of the trees with big trees in the park interior. New walkway swill be poured and paved to repair root damage from the Sycamore and Cedar trees. The replacement trees will be carefully selected to avoid the problems associated with the current trees. We regret having to remove these large trees but cannot invest in new park amenities with this continued destruction and safety issues.
Lundeen Park has hosted many significant events in LakeStevens’ history and was once the site of the famed dance hall built out over the lake. As a result of the City’s redevelopment efforts, it is once again becoming one of the most popular parks in Lake Stevens and a preferred location to host fun community events and celebrations, as well as being an enjoyable place to visit and play.
Work is currently underway and will ramp up mid-March with completion scheduled by early summer 2018.
